As effective as modern snow tires are, they can be stopped by extreme amounts of snow and steep gradients. When winter weather and road conditions demand a more aggressive approach, break out the tire chains! When used properly, tire chains can provide the traction and lateral control you need, and allow you to brake safely and reliably. A few reminders:
- Tire chains need to be draped over the drive wheels.
- Do not exceed the tire chain manufacturer's recommendation for maximum speed.
- Tire chains may not work with some low profile tires. The reduced amount of space between the tires and the wheel arch may not leave enough room for the chains.
- In order to be prepared to use your tire chains, we suggest you make at least one "practice run."
