Tread wear indicators (also known as "wear bars") are located at the base of the main grooves of a tire's tread and are equally spaced around the tire. Always remove a tire from service when it reaches a remaining tread depth of two thirty-seconds of an inch (2/32"). Bald or nearly bald tires are more prone to skidding on wet pavement, and are more susceptible to damage from road hazards. Built-in tread wear indicators, which look like narrow strips of smooth rubber across the tread, will appear on the tire when that point of wear has been reached. When you see these wear bars, the tire is worn out and should be replaced as quickly as possible.
