Vincent Nobile Mountain View Racing
Ever wonder what it's like to drive a Pro Stock car down a drag strip at 200+ miles per hour?

“It’s almost indescribable!” said Vincent Nobile. “It’s really something you need to feel to believe.”

Vincent drives the Mountain View Racing (MVR) team's Chevy Camaro at drag racing events across the country. And since his professional debut in 2010, he's earned a reputation as one of the most exciting young drivers on the NHRA circuit.

“There’s no street car that even comes close to comparing to a Pro Stock car. It’s almost like strapping yourself to a rocket,” said Nobile. “The very first time I made a launch in a Pro Stock car, I immediately shoved the clutch pedal back in because I could not believe how hard it accelerated! It really scared me.”

Vincent and John NobileVincent is tight with the Mitsos family - the owners of MVR and Mountain View Tire and Auto Service. He's also very close to his dad, John Nobile (at right with Vincent), who's an important member of the MVR team, too. “Being able to work with my father and drive for the Mitsos family has been a dream come true,” he said. “It made learning a thousand times easier because there was no pressure. The family environment made it much easier to learn and be as good a driver as I can be.”

That family connection has been key to the success of Mountain View Tire and Auto Service as well, not only at the corporate level, but in several of our stores where a few sets of brothers and even a father and his sons work side by side.

One of our responsibilities is keeping families safe while on the road. So, we asked Vincent if he has any driving tips. “One thing drag racing has taught me is how fast things can happen,” he said. “Naturally, everything happens 10 times faster in a race car, so you have no other option than to be 100 percent focused on what you're doing. But there's only one other driver on the race track, and thousands of other people on the road, so you need to be just as focused while driving down the highway. Not only do you need to pay attention to your own driving, but you need to be aware of everyone else around you in order to stay safe.”

And what are Vincent's goals for the 2017 NHRA season?

“I have the same three goals every year: have a safe, fun and winning year. Other than that, our team wants to win a world championship. I predict this year will be one of the most competitive years ever for Pro Stock, so it'll be really fun to watch and compete in. I have a lot of faith in my team, and I think we're going to do a lot of winning this year!”

We're very lucky. Every day we get to make a difference in people's lives.

We understand that when you walk into one of our stores, you'd probably rather not be there. Maybe your vehicle has broken down or one of your tires picked up a nail. Maybe a belt snapped or steam started pouring out of your radiator and now you're stranded.

Yeah, we get it: car troubles can be very frustrating.

So we try to ease that frustration as best as we can. We work to turn your bad experience into a WOW experience. Friendly people who put you first. Skilled automotive technicians. A willingness to go above and beyond. Great tires and easy financing options that make buying them easier on your budget. And a commitment to earning your lifelong loyalty. That's how we do it.

And then, when we get letters like this, we know all that effort is worth it.

MVT Corona Letter

We’d like to invite you to join us for our 2017 Presidents’ Day Tire Sale, February 18th, 19th and 20th at all Mountain View Tire and Auto Service locations.

Now, you might wonder why we’re holding a three-day tire sale during Presidents’ Day weekend.

Turns out there are many connections between tires and presidents. For instance...

1) Thomas Jefferson invented the first tire, but not for use on a vehicle. He thought it would make a swell pool toy.

2) To save money on college room and board, Lyndon Johnson lived in a pile of tires for five semesters.

3) Many presidents have had “spare tires.” Ya’ know, mid-sections that resemble a Goodyear Assurance TripleTred All-Season tire. The difference is that most presidents’ bellies don’t look great while providing confident traction in changing weather conditions.

Teddy and Tires4) Contrary to what you would have learned at a late 18th century puppet show, President William Henry Harrison did not die of pneumonia. He passed away shortly after eating a steel-belted radial on a dare.

5) To raise money for his U.S. Senate campaign, Dick Nixon wore a funny hat and juggled a set of Dunlops in a circus side show.

But seriously, we hope to see you at our 2017 Presidents' Day Tire Sale, where you can save money on every tire in stock.

Tire SensorsTechnology is pretty cool, isn't it?

On a stretch of Interstate 85 in Georgia, there are now sensors embedded in the road that can determine the pressure and tread depth of passing tires.

As a vehicle drives over the sensors, multi-image technology and imaging software team up to capture each tire's stats and feed it to the driver's cell phone or laptop, or even a nearby kiosk where the driver can print the information.

The goal of the service is to reduce the 35,000 fatal accidents that occur on America's roads each year. Many of those accidents are the result of tire failure, which can be caused by low tire pressure or low tread depth.

“We think this kind of cloud-based technology is going to revolutionize the way people look after their tires - reducing accidents, costs and carbon emissions,” said John Catling. He's the CEO and a founder of WheelRight, the Oxford, England-based manufacturer.

The newest Goodyear airship, Wingfoot Two, was christened in Akron, Ohio on October 21st. Savannah James did the honors. She’s an Akron native, a philanthropist, and the wife of NBA star LeBron James.

At 246 feet, Wingfoot Two is nearly as long as a football field. It’s faster than previous generations of airships with a top speed of 73 miles per hour. It’s also stronger, more maneuverable, and can carry more passengers in its larger gondola.

Since 1917, Goodyear has built more than 300 airships!

MVR Wins
Vincent Nobile and the Mountain View Racing team won their first event of the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series on Sunday, October 2nd.

The victory came at the 32nd annual Dodge NHRA Nationals in Mohnton, Pennsylvania. With only four races left in the season, the win keeps Mountain View Racing in the running for the 2016 Pro Stock championship.

"This was a huge day for us," said the 25-year old Nobile (far left in the photo) who beat Greg Anderson in the final round by just .0281 of a second; about 9 feet.

This is Nobile's sixth full season of Pro Stock competition. For Anderson, the weekend's final represented his 1,001st round of racing. He is only the 8th driver in NHRA history with that many passes to his credit.

Along with the prize money, the team will take home its tenth Wally, the foot-tall bronze statue of NRHA founder Wally Parks that's awarded to the winner of each class at every NHRA event.

Murrieta Good News

Elio Napolitano is the Manager of our Murrieta store. On August 31st, he sent the following text message to our management team. With his permission we’re sharing it with you.

Something happened at my store today that made me thankful there are still great people in this world.

This morning one of our first customers was a Marine who lost both his legs fighting for America. He had a great attitude and he was a pleasure to talk with.

Just prior to writing up his service order, a second retired Marine came in for an oil change. The two men struck up a conversation. Two brothers who had never met before.

After the second Marine paid for his oil change, he came into the back part of our shop to talk with me.

He asked what kind of work the gentleman who had lost his legs was having done. After telling him that the bill was about $170, the second Marine - without flinching - said he wanted to pay for it.

“We’ve both been through hell, but that guy’s been through more,” he said. “This is the least I can do.”

Wow! That’s the only way I could respond.

So, Brandon M., thank you for showing us that there are still amazing people in this world. Thank you for being that guy!

We could all learn a lesson from both of those Marines.

Let's get back to the point where we look out for our neighbors and put others before ourselves.

Do you like working with car care experts who give you more for your money?

It might be their warm smiles and welcoming attitudes. Maybe it’s the way they stay late to provide you with an emergency repair, or go the extra mile to save you money.

In our new radio commercials, we share real testimonials sent by real Mountain View customers - just a few of the many people who’ve written over the years to thank us for going above and beyond.

Take a listen to the quick stories in the videos above and below. And then listen for the spots on Pandora

And if you’re looking for an automotive service provider or a source for new tires, please consider Mountain View Tire and Auto Service. We deliver car care with a higher level of care.

SOD Freedom Award

If you like buying from companies that support our military veterans and their families, you’ll want to make sure the name Goodyear is on your next set of tires.

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is one of only 15 organizations to earn the 2016 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. It’s the highest honor a company can receive for supporting its employees who also serve in the National Guard or Reserve.

Goodyear is the only tire manufacturer to receive the award since it was first presented in 1996.

U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter was quoted as saying that “the extraordinary support Goodyear provides contributes greatly to the readiness and resilience of our guardsmen and reservists. Their support allows those troops to serve our nation at home and abroad knowing their civilian careers are secure, and is vitally important to the success of our national security strategy.”

Goodyear has hired more than 1,000 Guard, Reserve and veteran employees since 2011. The company has also raised more than $1 million for military families through the “Support Our Troops” programs.
