Lights and headlights

The average headlight lasts 450-1,000 hours. That’s quite a range. So how do you know when it’s time to have your headlights replaced? That’s hard to say. Many variables affect the service life of individual headlights, from the thickness of their filament to the heat, vibration and electrical surges they have to endure. That’s why a blown headlight catches many of us by surprise. Luckily, we’re here to help.

Tips for maintaining your vehicle lights

Keep your headlights, taillights and signal lights clean. External dirt and debris can dim operational lights and keep them from being seen by other drivers.

Make sure your headlights are properly aimed. Those that aren’t can temporarily blind oncoming drivers and reduce your ability to see the road completely.

Don’t overdrive your headlights. You should be able to stop safely within the illuminated area of the road. If you’re driving too fast, you’re creating a blind crash area in front of your vehicle.
