OIL RECYCLING MAKES A DIFFERENCE

You can do so much good by doing something so simple: taking your used motor oil to any Mountain View Tire & Auto Service store for recycling. Many people don’t realize that used oil can be recycled, but it’s true! Used oil can be cleaned, re-refined, and used again or processed into fuel oil.

Don’t dump—recycle motor oil!

Every year, millions of gallons of used motor oil are discarded improperly in storm sewers, waterways and garbage cans. This dumping adds dangerous chemicals to our soil and waterways, including lead, zinc, chromium, arsenic, chlorides, cadmium and chlorinated compounds.

Recycle oil for a healthier environment

When old oil is recycled, it can be made into new motor oil, saving energy and reducing the need to produce more motor oil from virgin crude.

Oil Recycling: What you can do to make a difference
If you change your vehicle’s oil yourself, please follow these simple steps:

Drain the used motor oil into a clean, dry container, such as a used milk jug. Take care not to let water or any other vehicle fluids mix with the oil. Then seal the container tightly to prevent any spillage.

Remove the used oil filter. It may contain about 10 ounces of oil, so seal the filter in a heavy, self-locking plastic bag to contain the oil inside it.

Take both the oil and the filter to any Mountain View Tire location. As a certified Used Oil Collection Center for the State of California, we dispose of used oil and filters properly and safely.

Please be aware that we cannot accept used motor oil that has been contaminated with water, antifreeze, solvents, gasoline or any other type of fluid.
